Driver II Job Description

The Driver II role is positioned within the transport and logistics function and is responsible for the professional operation of assigned institutional motor vehicles. This position supports day-to-day business processes by ensuring timely, safe, and cost-effective transportation of staff and materials. The role requires close collaboration with transport service providers, traffic enforcement agencies, and internal stakeholders. Key Responsibilities

  • Drive assigned HELB motor vehicles professionally to facilitate official business operations.
  • Ensure the safety of staff, passengers, and other road users by strictly adhering to traffic laws and guidelines.
  • Comply with approved work schedules and timelines to support efficient service delivery.
  • Liaise with motor vehicle dealers, fuel providers, and designated garages to enhance transport service delivery.
  • Provide regular updates and reports on transport matters to support informed decision-making.
  • Ensure compliance with transport legal requirements and institutional regulations for cost control and risk management.
  • Collaborate with traffic enforcement agencies, including the Government Vehicle Check Unit and NTSA, to enhance road safety.
  • Ensure timely servicing and maintenance of assigned vehicles to improve cost efficiency and reliability.
  • Conduct routine daily checks to confirm vehicles are in sound mechanical condition.
  • Maintain vehicle cleanliness to enhance passenger comfort and reduce depreciation.
  • Report all accidents, incidents, or defects promptly to facilitate appropriate action.
  • Ensure security of assigned vehicles to minimize losses and damage.
  • Maintain accurate transport documentation, including work tickets, fuel receipts, fuel cards, and authorization letters.
  • Adhere strictly to institutional vehicle usage guidelines.
  • Monitor and report vehicle insurance expiry dates to enable timely renewals.

Required Qualifications

  • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean grade D (plain) or an equivalent qualification.
  • Valid driving license with no current endorsements.
  • First Aid Certificate of at least one (1) week from a recognized institution.
  • Valid Certificate of Good Conduct from the Kenya Police.
  • Certificate in computer applications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience driving institutional or government fleet vehicles.
  • Familiarity with public sector transport policies and procedures.
  • Basic knowledge of defensive driving and risk mitigation practices.
