Job Description

The Manager, Investment role supports the execution of the Fund’s investment strategy through effective portfolio management, performance monitoring, and compliance oversight. Working closely with senior leadership, external fund managers, and investment advisors, the position contributes directly to the achievement of the Fund’s return objectives while maintaining adherence to approved risk parameters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing the Fund’s portfolio of securities to ensure profitability and compliance with the Fund’s risk management policy.
  • Monitoring external Fund Managers to ensure effective implementation of and compliance with the Fund’s Investment Policy.
  • Coordinating and reviewing presentations by Fund Managers on portfolio performance, strategies, and market trends.
  • Reviewing investment goals and strategies in collaboration with Fund Managers, Investment Advisors, and Custodians.
  • Performing or evaluating detailed company, sector, and industry research to support financial forecasting and investment decision-making.
  • Undertaking actuarial valuations to support long-term pension fund sustainability.
  • Ensuring adherence to statutory, regulatory, and governance requirements applicable to pension funds.
  • Supporting portfolio construction, asset allocation, and diversification initiatives.
  • Identifying and analyzing new investment opportunities aligned with the Fund’s objectives.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Actuarial Science, Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field from a recognized institution.
  • Master’s Degree in Actuarial Science, Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field from a recognized institution.
  • At least fifteen (15) years of cumulative service, with a minimum of three (3) years at the grade of Assistant Manager, Investment Officer (PSSF 4), or a comparable position.
  • Leadership Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution.
  • CIFA or CFA finalist status, or an equivalent professional qualification.
  • Full membership to CIFA, CFA, or an equivalent professional body in good standing.
  • Valid practicing license where applicable.
  • Proficiency in computer applications and investment management systems.
  • Fulfillment of the requirements of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya.
  • Demonstrated merit, integrity, and strong performance results.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working within pension funds, asset management firms, or institutional investment environments.
  • Strong analytical skills in financial modeling, valuation, and performance measurement.
  • Experience collaborating with external fund managers and custodians.
  • Knowledge of capital markets, fixed income, equities, and alternative investments.
