About the Role
The Supervisor – Credit Monitoring will support sustainable credit portfolio growth by ensuring approved credit terms and covenants remain compliant after disbursement. The position is responsible for identifying emerging credit risks, monitoring delinquency, analyzing portfolio trends, and coordinating timely escalation and remedial interventions.
Key Responsibilities
Credit Portfolio Monitoring and Surveillance
- Supervise daily, weekly, and monthly monitoring of performing and non-performing loan portfolios.
- Track repayment behavior, arrears trends, excesses, limit breaches, covenant breaches, and early warning indicators.
- Ensure timely review and escalation of watch-list accounts and deteriorating exposures.
- Monitor sector, product, geographic, and obligor concentration risks.
- Ensure adherence to approved credit terms and covenants following loan disbursement.
Early Warning and Risk Detection
- Identify borrowers showing signs of financial stress and recommend appropriate remedial actions.
- Coordinate the preparation and maintenance of Watchlist and High Risk Accounts registers.
- Trigger account reviews when borrower risk profiles change materially.
- Escalate high-risk exposures to Credit Management Committees promptly.
Portfolio Quality Management
- Support efforts to reduce PAR, NPL ratios, roll-rates, and delinquency migration.
- Track the curing performance of delinquent accounts.
- Monitor restructuring, rescheduling, and remedial management accounts.
- Work with Recoveries and Business teams to implement action plans for stressed facilities.
Reporting and Analytics
- Conduct portfolio stress tests and analyze credit risk trends.
- Assess portfolio performance across Retail, MSME, Commercial, Corporate, and Digital lending segments.
- Generate insights on emerging sector risks and recommend mitigating actions.
Compliance, Governance and Team Leadership
- Ensure compliance with CBK prudential guidelines, IFRS 9 triggers, internal credit policies, and risk appetite limits.
- Support internal and external audit reviews and facilitate closure of audit findings.
- Supervise Credit Monitoring Officers, allocate work, mentor staff, and ensure adherence to service level requirements.
- Drive continuous improvement and automation of credit monitoring processes.
- Promote a strong risk culture, accountability, and effective operational practices within the unit.
- Perform any other official duties assigned by management.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Statistics, Banking, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Professional qualification such as CPA(K), ACCA, CFA, Credit Risk Certification, or equivalent.
- Minimum 4–6 years of banking experience in Credit Risk, Credit Administration, Portfolio Monitoring, Remedial Management, or Corporate/SME Credit.
- Proven experience monitoring diverse loan portfolios across Retail, MSME, Commercial, and Corporate segments.
- Experience using core banking systems and portfolio analytics tools.
- Strong knowledge of credit risk analysis and portfolio management.
- Knowledge of Retail, MSME, Commercial, and Corporate lending products.
- Strong understanding of asset quality management and remedial credit practices.
- Awareness of IFRS 9 staging and impairment requirements.
- Knowledge of CBK prudential guidelines and regulatory compliance.
- Financial statement analysis, covenant monitoring, and security perfection controls.
- Strong portfolio analytics and ability to interpret credit trends.
- Proficiency in core banking and loan management systems.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
- Training in IFRS 9, Credit Risk Management, Data Analytics, or Banking Operations.
- Advanced Excel, Power BI, SQL, or other analytics tools.
- Exposure to a transforming or growth-oriented banking environment.
