The Public Service Commission is recruiting an Assistant Director, Climate Change (Mitigation) – Greenhouse Gas Inventories to support climate change mitigation, climate finance, negotiations, resource mobilization and related national climate action initiatives.

Requirements for Appointment

• Served a minimum period of three (3) years in the grade of Principal Climate Change Officer, CSG 8, or in a comparable and relevant position in the wider public service.
• Hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Studies, Meteorology, Natural Resource Sciences, Engineering, Climatology, Law, Environmental Planning and Management, Economics, Statistics, Climate Change or an equivalent qualification from a university recognized in Kenya.
• Hold a certificate in Senior Management Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Assistant Director, Climate Change (Mitigation) – Greenhouse Gas Inventories will be responsible for supporting climate change adaptation planning, implementation, financing, negotiations and resource mobilization activities.

• Developing, implementing and reviewing the National Climate Change Action Plan on adaptation and the National Adaptation Plan.
• Providing technical support in the planning and implementation of adaptation projects, programmes and activities across various sectors.
• Guiding the preparation of reports on the status of implementation of adaptation actions under the National Climate Change Action Plan.
• Supporting technology development and transfer and research for adaptation across different sectors through capacity building.
• Guiding the development of adaptation project proposals for domestic and international funding.
• Providing technical assistance on adaptation based on needs identified by county governments.
• Facilitating the mainstreaming of climate change adaptation into national development planning processes and implementing climate change adaptation programmes and projects.

Climate Change Negotiations and Resource Mobilization Division

• Sensitizing climate change actors on climate finance.
• Facilitating capacity building of stakeholders to enhance access to climate finance.
• Promoting linkages between climate change private investors and climate actors to facilitate enhanced climate action.
• Liaising with stakeholders in preparing for and participating in global, regional and national climate change negotiations.
• Facilitating capacity building of stakeholders on international climate change negotiation outcomes.
• Developing, reviewing and implementing strategies for resource mobilization to address climate action.
• Coordinating participation in regional and global negotiations to articulate Kenya’s interests in climate change.
