Assistant Director, Social Development

The Public Service Commission is recruiting an Assistant Director, Social Development to support social development programmes, community mobilization, social welfare, social protection and community capacity building in Kenya. The position is suited to a social development professional with at least two years of service as a Principal Social Development Officer, CSG 8, or in a comparable and relevant position.

Requirements for Appointment

• Have a minimum service period of two (2) years in the grade of Principal Social Development Officer, CSG 8, or in a comparable and relevant position in the wider public service.
• Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, Anthropology, Social Work, Community Development, Project Development/Management, Disability Studies, Counselling, Gender Studies, Gender and Development, Business Administration/Management or another relevant qualification from a university recognized in Kenya.
• Hold a Certificate Course in Senior Management lasting not less than four (4) weeks.
• Demonstrate outstanding professional competence and administrative ability.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Implementing community mobilization, community development, social welfare, social protection, Community Capacity Support Programme (CCSP), vocational rehabilitation services, volunteerism and family promotion and protection programmes.
• Developing action plans for social development programmes.
• Developing strategies for social groups and communities to improve their participation in development.
• Verifying the eligibility of identified older persons and persons with severe disability in programmes and projects.
• Developing and reviewing monitoring tools for implementing social development programmes.
• Undertaking research on social development issues in communities.
• Supporting institutions of older persons in providing effective care and protection for vulnerable older persons.
