Deputy Director, Climate Change(Information & Knowledge)

About the Role

The Deputy Director, Climate Change (Information & Knowledge) will support the development, implementation and review of national climate change adaptation plans and related programmes. The position also provides technical support for adaptation projects, reporting, research, technology development and transfer, and climate change planning.

The role includes supporting county governments based on identified adaptation needs and facilitating the integration of climate change adaptation into national development planning processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement and review the National Climate Change Action Plan on adaptation and the National Adaptation Plan.
• Provide technical support in the planning and implementation of climate change adaptation projects, programmes and activities across various sectors.
• Guide the preparation of reports on the status of implementation of adaptation actions under the National Climate Change Action Plan.
• Support technology development and transfer, as well as research for climate change adaptation across different sectors through capacity building.
• Guide the development of adaptation project proposals for domestic and international funding.
• Provide technical assistance on climate change adaptation based on needs identified by county governments.
• Facilitate the mainstreaming of climate change adaptation into national development planning processes.
• Support the implementation of climate change adaptation programmes and projects.

Required Qualifications

• Must have served for a minimum period of three years in the grade of Assistant Director, Climate Change, CSG 7, or in a comparable and relevant position in the wider public service.
• A Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Studies, Meteorology, Natural Resource Sciences, Engineering, Climatology, Law, Environmental Planning and Management, Economics, Statistics, Climate Change or an equivalent qualification from a university recognized in Kenya.
• A Certificate in Leadership Development Course lasting not less than four weeks from a recognized institution.
• Demonstrated professional competence, managerial and leadership capabilities as reflected in work performance and results.
• Demonstrated understanding of the National development goals.
