Manager, Projects Monitoring & Evaluation Job Description
The Manager will provide leadership in developing, implementing, and overseeing KenGen’s Monitoring and Evaluation framework. The position will ensure strategic initiatives, programs, and projects are delivered within approved scope, cost, quality, timelines, and performance requirements.
The role will strengthen project accountability through performance measurement, evaluation, reporting, risk monitoring, benefits realization, and project assurance. It will also support management decision-making through reliable project data and evidence-based insights.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee monitoring and evaluation of the Company’s project portfolio against approved scope, cost, schedules, quality, and performance parameters.
- Track project implementation against objectives, milestones, and key performance indicators.
- Lead development of project performance measurement systems, dashboards, and reporting mechanisms.
- Integrate Monitoring and Evaluation frameworks with corporate planning, budgeting, performance management, and reporting processes.
- Prepare and consolidate project performance reports, evaluation findings, and management briefs for senior stakeholders.
- Direct baseline, mid-term, end-term, impact, and post-implementation project evaluations.
- Assess project outcomes, effectiveness, efficiency, sustainability, and value for money.
- Oversee benefits realization to confirm projects achieve intended strategic, operational, and financial outcomes.
- Strengthen contract performance management, including claims, variations, disputes, and works valuation.
- Monitor project risks, mitigation measures, controls, and assurance mechanisms across the portfolio.
Required Qualifications – Project Management jobs in Kenya
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Economics, Statistics, Project Management, Quantity Surveying, Monitoring & Evaluation, Finance, Business Administration, or an equivalent qualification.
- Master’s degree in Project Management, Monitoring & Evaluation, Business Administration, Strategic Management, Engineering Management, or an equivalent qualification.
- At least 12 years of relevant professional experience, including five years in a management role.
- Professional certification in Project Management, Monitoring & Evaluation, Project Controls, or Contract Management is an added advantage.
- Registration with a relevant professional body in good standing.
- Membership of a relevant professional body in Kenya in good standing.
- Leadership course lasting at least four weeks from a recognized institution.
- Applicants pursuing senior project management careers should demonstrate strong analytical, strategic, and performance management capabilities.
- Must fulfill the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong experience with project dashboards, evaluation frameworks, KPI tracking, and data analysis.
- Practical knowledge of contract management, project controls, and capital expenditure optimization.
- Experience coordinating government agencies, regulators, contractors, consultants, and development partners.
- Strong strategic thinking, risk management, decision-making, and stakeholder coordination capabilities.
