About the Nursing Council of Kenya
The Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK) is the statutory regulatory body established under the Nurses Act (Cap. 257) to regulate nursing education and professional practice in Kenya. The Council safeguards public health by ensuring that only competent, qualified, and licensed nurses and midwives are authorized to practice while maintaining professional standards across the healthcare sector.
To strengthen service delivery, the Council is recruiting Registration & Licensing Officers who will support regulatory operations, maintain professional registers, coordinate licensing services, and provide quality customer service to healthcare professionals and institutions.
Registration & Licensing Officer Job Summary
The Registration & Licensing Officer will support the processing of professional registration, annual practicing licenses, internship administration, verification services, private practice licensing, certification, and records management. The role requires excellent attention to detail, strong regulatory knowledge, customer service skills, and the ability to maintain accurate professional records while ensuring compliance with statutory requirements.
The successful candidates will work closely with healthcare professionals, training institutions, employers, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders to facilitate efficient registration and licensing services while supporting the Council’s digital transformation initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Process applications for registration and initial licensure of nurses and midwives.
- Verify academic qualifications, examination results, internship completion records, and supporting documents.
- Maintain accurate professional registers and licensing records.
- Facilitate issuance, replacement, validation, and reprinting of registration certificates.
- Provide guidance to applicants on registration requirements and licensing procedures.
- Process annual practicing license renewal applications.
- Verify Continuing Professional Development (CPD) compliance requirements.
- Maintain retention, licensing, and professional practice records.
- Process verification requests for employment, education, emigration, and regulatory purposes.
- Prepare certification documents and professional standing reports.
- Support placement, administration, monitoring, and evaluation of internship programmes.
- Verify internship eligibility and facilitate issuance of internship permits and logbooks.
- Assess applications submitted by nurses trained outside Kenya and support competency assessment processes.
- Process applications for private practice licenses and renewals.
- Maintain accurate registration, licensing, internship, and verification databases.
- Respond to stakeholder inquiries and provide professional customer support.
- Support implementation of digital registration and licensing systems.
- Participate in accreditation exercises, inspections, compliance audits, and examination activities.
- Prepare departmental reports, statistics, operational updates, and performance reports.
- Support departmental planning, budgeting, quality management, and risk management initiatives.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, Midwifery, Nursing Education, Nursing Administration, Public Health Nursing, or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
- Registration Certificate issued by the Nursing Council of Kenya.
- Valid Practicing License issued by the Nursing Council of Kenya.
- Proficiency in computer applications.
- Demonstrated integrity and professional competence.
- Fulfilled the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.
