Social Development Officer

Requirements for Appointment

Duties and Responsibilities

Social Development Officer is the entry and training grade for this cadre. An officer at this level works under the guidance of a senior officer and supports community development, stakeholder engagement and social development activities within the mining sector.

• Work with communities to identify and mobilize local resources for implementing development projects and Community Development Agreements (CDAs).
• Guide communities and stakeholders in developing Community Development Agreements (CDAs).
• Support mining officers in engaging communities on mineral beneficiation.
• Liaise with local communities, artisanal miners and other development agencies on Environmental Social Governance (ESG).
• Support and facilitate artisanal miners to organize into formal groups, associations or cooperatives for registration under the Mining Act.
• Conduct sensitization for artisanal miners and stakeholders on sustainable mining practices, legal requirements, grievance handling and elimination of child labour.
• Collect sex, age and disability-disaggregated data for social development and mining community programmes.
• Collect and manage social development-related data to support planning.

Required Qualifications
