Legal Officer Job Description – Banking Legal Jobs in Kenya

The Legal Officer is responsible for providing legal advisory services, supporting corporate governance, ensuring regulatory compliance, and assisting the Company Secretariat with Board administration. The role safeguards the Bank’s legal interests by delivering timely legal opinions, managing legal documentation, supporting litigation matters, and maintaining statutory records.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft legal opinions and provide timely legal advice to management and business units.

  • Draft, review, negotiate, and manage contracts, agreements, and other legal documentation.

  • Conduct legal awareness sessions and prepare updates on legislative and regulatory developments.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Law (LL.B or equivalent).
  • Associate, Fellow, or Member of the Institute of Certified Secretaries (ICS) Kenya.
  • Active membership with the Law Society of Kenya (LSK).
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in a similar legal role within a bank or financial institution.
  • Strong knowledge of banking law, corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and contract management.
  • Professional expertise supporting banking compliance jobs Kenya is highly desirable.
