Chief Risk Officer Job Description – Enterprise Risk Management Jobs in Kenya

The Chief Risk Officer (CRO) is responsible for providing strategic leadership of the Bank’s Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework by identifying, assessing, monitoring, and mitigating strategic, operational, credit, market, technology, and cybersecurity risks. The role supports executive decision-making, strengthens risk governance, and ensures full compliance with banking regulations and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and continuously enhance the Bank’s enterprise-wide risk management framework.
  • Support the Board Risk Committee in defining risk appetite, tolerance levels, and governance strategies.
  • Identify, assess, monitor, and mitigate operational, credit, market, strategic, and technology risks.
  • Provide executive risk advisory services to senior management and integrate risk management into strategic decision-making.
  • Develop and monitor operational risk, IT risk, cybersecurity, and business continuity management frameworks.
  • Prepare and present risk reports, key risk indicators, and regulatory submissions to Executive Management, the Board, and regulators.
  • Ensure compliance with Basel II requirements, Central Bank regulations, internal policies, and corporate governance standards.
  • Promote a strong risk culture through staff training, policy management, awareness programs, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Banking & Finance, or a related discipline.
  • MBA, postgraduate qualification, or professional certification such as CPA, ACA, or ACCA is highly desirable.
  • Minimum of eight years’ banking experience, including at least five years in a senior leadership role.
  • Extensive knowledge of enterprise risk management, banking regulations, financial risk, and corporate governance.
  • Strong expertise in operational risk, cybersecurity, market risk, credit risk, and business continuity management.
  • Professional experience supporting risk management jobs Kenya within the banking sector is highly desirable.
