Mortician Job Description – Mortuary Jobs in Nairobi

The Mortician will provide professional mortuary services by receiving, preserving, documenting, preparing, and releasing human remains in accordance with legal, ethical, and professional standards. The successful candidate will ensure respectful handling of the deceased while supporting post-mortem processes and assisting bereaved families.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive and collect bodies from hospital wards and law enforcement agencies.
  • Register, document, and file death notifications and mortuary records accurately.

  • Prepare bodies for burial through embalming, cleaning, dressing, and preservation.
  • Carry out beautification procedures including shaving, cosmetic application, and hair grooming where appropriate.
  • Conduct routine stocktaking of bodies and maintain accurate mortuary inventories.
  • Maintain cleanliness of mortuary facilities, equipment, and instruments.
  • Assist relatives and relevant authorities in identifying unknown bodies.
  • Support post-mortem procedures by preserving evidence, reconstructing bodies, and removing foreign implants where authorized.
  • Facilitate body viewing and release human remains to authorized next of kin following established legal procedures.

Required Qualifications – Mortuary Careers in Kenya

  • Diploma in Morgue Science, Mortuary Science, Morgue Training and Mortuary Science, or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
  • Membership with the Morticians and Allied Professionals Association of Kenya or another relevant professional body.
  • Certificate in Computer Applications.
  • Compliance with the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.
  • Strong knowledge of mortuary operations, embalming procedures, infection prevention, and legal documentation.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal, and record management skills.
