The role combines career guidance, student counseling, industry engagement, mentorship and coordination of student support programmes.

About Bandari Maritime Academy

Bandari Maritime Academy was established through Legal Notice No. 233 of 28th November 2018, with the mandate to develop academic and vocational skills and provide competent maritime human resources for a sustainable Blue Economy.

About the Role

The Student Career and Welfare Officer will help students make informed career decisions, prepare for employment and access opportunities across the public and private sectors. The position also supports student welfare through counseling, mentorship, financial aid services, disability support and student discipline matters.

Key Responsibilities

• Counsel students on career choices, resume writing, interview techniques and job search strategies.
• Connect students with internships, attachments, volunteering and full-time employment opportunities in the public and private sectors.
• Organize career fairs, workshops and career talks involving industry professionals.
• Analyze current employment trends and employer demands to provide relevant career guidance to students.
• Address students’ emotional, social and psychological needs, including providing counseling.
• Provide training in leadership, stress management, conflict resolution and self-awareness.
• Manage work-study programmes, financial aid services, disability support and student mentorship.
• Handle student discipline and welfare issues and act as a liaison between students and the Academy administration.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Counseling, Psychology, Education, Management, Social Sciences or an equivalent qualification.
• Strong communication and counseling skills.
• Proficiency in career planning tools.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience in student affairs, human resources or career coaching would be an added advantage.

Benefits and Compensation

The position offers a basic salary of Kshs. 42,500 – Kshs. 80,000 per month, a house allowance of Kshs. 10,000, commuter allowance of Kshs. 12,000 and annual leave allowance of Kshs. 4,000. The position is offered on Permanent and Pensionable terms.
