Chief Superintending Geologist

About the Role

The Chief Superintending Geologist will provide professional and administrative oversight of geological services, including geological mapping, mineral exploration, geophysical and geochemical programmes, geotechnical investigations and environmental investigations.

The role also involves planning, implementing and evaluating geological programmes and preparing and negotiating project plans requiring external funding.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise geological mapping programmes.
• Oversee mineral exploration programmes and related activities.
• Supervise geological hazards programmes.
• Plan geological mapping, geophysical and geochemical mineral exploration programmes.
• Plan geotechnical and environmental investigation programmes under different sections of the division.
• Implement geological mapping, mineral exploration, geotechnical and environmental investigation programmes.
• Evaluate and assess the progress of geological mapping and mineral exploration programmes.
• Evaluate geotechnical and environmental investigation programmes.
• Prepare project plans for programmes requiring external funding.
• Negotiate project plans requiring external funding.

Required Qualifications

• A minimum service period of three years at the grade of Senior Superintending Geologist, CSG 8, or in a comparable and relevant position in the wider public service.
• A Bachelor of Science degree in Geology, Applied Geology, Geochemistry, Geophysics, Mining Geology, Environmental Geology, Engineering Geology or an equivalent qualification from a university recognized in Kenya.
• Demonstrated professional competence and high administrative ability in geological services.
• Completion of a Management Course lasting at least four weeks from a recognized institution.
• Registration by the Geologists Registration Board of Kenya.
