Job Description

The Driver III position plays an important role in ensuring safe, timely, and compliant transportation services to support KeNHA’s operational efficiency. The officer will drive authorized vehicles, transport staff and approved goods, and maintain vehicle safety and mechanical integrity in alignment with the Traffic Act and internal operational guidelines.

This role contributes to smooth departmental workflows, timely movement of personnel, and proper care of KeNHA’s fleet. The Driver III works under the supervision of a Driver II and may collaborate with administrative teams, technical support units, and departmental managers. Key Responsibilities

  • Driving assigned official vehicles responsibly and safely as authorized by KeNHA.
  • Ensuring safety and security of the vehicle, passengers, and transported goods at all times.
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date daily work tickets to record mileage, movements, fuel consumption, and service schedules.
  • Ensuring routine servicing and preventive maintenance of the vehicle is conducted promptly.
  • Carrying out daily vehicle checks, including coolant levels, engine oil, electrical systems, brake systems, and tire pressure.
  • Detecting mechanical faults early and reporting issues for timely repair and corrective maintenance.
  • Ensuring proper cleanliness and hygienic upkeep of the assigned vehicle.
  • Reporting accidents immediately and following up on police abstracts where required.
  • Ensuring the vehicle undergoes periodic statutory inspection and that all insurance documents remain valid and updated.

Required Qualifications

  • KCSE mean grade D (plain) or equivalent from a recognized institution.
  • A valid driving license free from endorsements for vehicles required for this role.
  • First Aid Certificate from St. John Ambulance, KIHBT, or another recognized training institution (minimum one-week course).
  • Suitability Test Certificate for Drivers issued by the Ministry responsible for transport.
  • Valid Clearance Certificate from the National Police Service.
  • Minimum of two (2) years proven driving experience.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in government transport operations or public sector driving.
  • Familiarity with fleet management procedures and defensive driving principles.
  • Knowledge of road safety laws, national transport regulations, and traffic compliance standards.
  • Experience working in large or multi-departmental organizations.
