Chief Superintending Inspector of Mines

About the Role

The Chief Superintending Inspector of Mines will oversee activities within sections of the Mines Division, supporting effective planning, direction, control and coordination of mining inspection and mineral development activities.

The position also involves mineral legislation and policy work, environmental assessment, mine rehabilitation, resource development, supervision of inspectors, performance monitoring and participation in mining-related legal and public awareness activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Draft policies, mineral legislation, standards and mineral agreements.
• Review Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) reports for exploration and mining projects.
• Monitor mine rehabilitation and reclamation projects.
• Promote mineral resources development.
• Prepare work plans and divisional budgets.
• Coordinate and supervise Senior Superintending Inspectors of Mines.
• Monitor and evaluate work performance.
• Attend court cases involving mining disputes.
• Promote public awareness on petroleum-related environmental and safety issues.

Required Qualifications

• A minimum service period of three years at the grade of Senior Superintending Inspector of Mines or in a comparable and relevant position in the public service.
• A Bachelor of Science degree in Mining Engineering, Mineral Processing Engineering or Civil Engineering from a recognized university.
• Demonstrated high standards of professional competence and managerial ability required for effective planning, directing, control and coordination of activities within sections of the Mines Division.
• Knowledge of both local and international guidelines for safe mining.
• A Senior Management Course (SMC) certificate lasting at least four weeks.
